What Light Has to Say
Says the drop of light:
Dying is not the hardest part.
Splintered by diamonds,
scattered anew in the morning dew,
I only seem to disappear behind the rocks.
I have been the sunrise splashing
oranges against the garden wall,
surprising awake the yawning,
stretching flowers in their little beds.
I crept all the summer through
their budding, then bursting hearts.
And when the dancing lilies fell,
we continued on together.
After blazing into morning’s glory,
the flaming out of dissolution may be
my most mischievous art…
So to fields of flocking life,
breathing beneath stirred-up lightning seas,
cradling your infinities,
in my body, I say: Yes,
all that you have tasted is true!
And though the days assuredly seem to flee,
this love shines
perennially,
undiminishably,
perfectly inextinguishably.
