Table of Contents for Root Meanings

General notes:

  • Root Meanings is a work in progress that will continue to emerge and evolve. All entries are subject to evolution.
  • The entries in Root Meanings have been sourced and refined until they calibrate all the way for truth. Older entries may need to be updated for this to be the case.
  • The primary criterion for inclusion in Root Meanings is calibration for truth. These entries are not intended to be consistent with any pre-existing spiritual teachings or traditions. The entries in Root Meanings may differ from or go beyond widely accepted teachings. Moreover, some of what has been sourced may be novel.
  • Many excellent and useful definitions are not yet included. If you would like to make a suggestion, you may do so here.
  • If you find Root Meanings to be helpful, please considering sponsoring this work or making a donation. Your support helps to ensure that the definitions will continue to be refined and offered free of charge to the world.
  • The intention is to distribute Root Meanings under a suitable Creative Commons license before the end of the decade. In the meantime, unless otherwise noted, all works in progress and the final work are copyright Jeff Vander Clute.

Emergence

  • The appearance of higher orders of complexity in systems.
  • The bootstrapping of higher orders of complexity.
  • The bootstrapping of higher orders of creation.
  • The bootstrapping of higher orders of expression.
  • The process by which a transcendent agency “breathes” itself into a system through the elements that are already part of the system.
  • Emergence occurs in all systems of sufficient complexity.
  • Emergence is both a horizontal process of self-organization, and a vertical orchestration of the One.
  • Emergence is evidence of higher-order agency.
  • Emergence is orchestrated by the intelligence of Divinity/God/Source.
  • Emergence works with and through pre-existing elements while bringing something new into expression.
  • Emergence brings new information and energy into creation beyond what can be completely accounted for in terms of pre-existing elements.
  • Emergent phenomena cannot be predicted based on individual particles or entities. Emergence requires a collective. Examples: Temperature emerges from the interactions of many molecules and a murmuration requires many starlings.
  • The intelligence which orchestrates emergence transcends and interpenetrates that which is emerging.
  • The horizontal and vertical aspects of emergence operate as a single process in which the horizontal provides continuous feedback to the vertical.

Sayings:

  • “Consciousness does not emerge from the physical universe. The physical universe emerges from Consciousness.”
