Table of Contents for Root Meanings

General notes:

  • Root Meanings is a work in progress that will continue to emerge and evolve. All entries are subject to evolution.
  • The entries in Root Meanings have been sourced and refined until they calibrate all the way for truth. Older entries may need to be updated for this to be the case.
  • The primary criterion for inclusion in Root Meanings is calibration for truth. These entries are not intended to be consistent with any pre-existing spiritual teachings or traditions. The entries in Root Meanings may differ from or go beyond widely accepted teachings. Moreover, some of what has been sourced may be novel.
  • Many excellent and useful definitions are not yet included. If you would like to make a suggestion, you may do so here.
  • If you find Root Meanings to be helpful, please considering sponsoring this work or making a donation. Your support helps to ensure that the definitions will continue to be refined and offered free of charge to the world.
  • The intention is to distribute Root Meanings under a suitable Creative Commons license before the end of the decade. In the meantime, unless otherwise noted, all works in progress and the final work are copyright Jeff Vander Clute.

Compassion

  • A form of love that works to alleviate and ultimately to eliminate suffering.
  • A form of love that works to end suffering by eliminating the root cause of suffering, which is forgetfulness of being THE SUPREME.
  • Loving action that restores the knowing of reality and truth.
  • The practice of compassion facilitates the realization of truth as an antidote to suffering. Suffering diminishes as truth is realized.
  • To the extent that one has realized THE SUPREME, one is able to practice compassion powerfully and comprehensively.
  • To the extent that one has remembered being THE SUPREME, one is able to practice compassion powerfully and comprehensively.
  • Compassionate action is empowered in the measure that the practitioner is acting with awareness and awakeness.
  • Compassion can be fierce. The process of eliminating suffering may be experienced as “tough love” by those who are attached to their suffering or the causes of their suffering.
  • The most potent compassion uproots the cause of all suffering for all beings.
  • The most potent compassion facilitates the full remembrance of THE SUPREME, which is the full remembrance of being THE SUPREME. Suffering disappears completely when THE SUPREME is completely remembered.

Sayings:

  • “Compassion can be fierce, though never without love. Compassion without love cannot be compassion.”
