Table of Contents for Root Meanings
General notes:
- Root Meanings is a work in progress that will continue to emerge and evolve. All entries are subject to evolution.
- The entries in Root Meanings have been sourced and refined until they calibrate all the way for truth. Older entries may need to be updated for this to be the case.
- The primary criterion for inclusion in Root Meanings is calibration for truth. These entries are not intended to be consistent with any pre-existing spiritual teachings or traditions. The entries in Root Meanings may differ from or go beyond widely accepted teachings. Moreover, some of what has been sourced may be novel.
- Many excellent and useful definitions are not yet included. If you would like to make a suggestion, you may do so here.
- If you find Root Meanings to be helpful, please considering sponsoring this work or making a donation. Your support helps to ensure that the definitions will continue to be refined and offered free of charge to the world.
- The intention is to distribute Root Meanings under a suitable Creative Commons license before the end of the decade. In the meantime, unless otherwise noted, all works in progress and the final work are copyright Jeff Vander Clute.

Awakeness
- Pure awakeness is what is and is all that is. Unawakeness never is. All definitions of awakeness are temporary devices that serve to undo the belief in the idea of unawakeness. Thus, one could cease reading here and be complete.
- Enlightenment.
- Establishment in and as true nature.
- Knowing naked reality – beyond unreal notions, fixed ideas, and illusory experience.
- Recognition of reality.
- The knowing of reality.
- Awakeness is the basis of existence.
- When the Mind is clear, awakeness is obvious.
- Awakeness is not an experience. When one is established in awakeness, experience becomes transparent and dissolves into immediate (unmediated) direct knowing.
- Supreme Awakeness is the recognition of Supreme Reality, which is the recognition that all is THE SUPREME (including any seeming unawakeness).
- Apex awakeness is unalloyed. There is no unawakeness in apex awakeness.
- To be established in and as apex awakeness is to know that only apex awakeness is.
Sayings:
- “The flourishing of all of life is an indication of Supreme Awakeness.”
- “The outpicturing of awakeness is necessarily thriving.”
- “When you are awake as YOU, the entire universe is awake.”
- “When we are awake, we know we are awake without needing any confirmation.”
