My Heart Lives in India
India is my mother
and my love for her
is beyond any mind’s
ability to comprehend.
My heart lives in India.
To dream of India
is to be raised
into ecstasy.
To remember
her mountains
and her forests,
her humid hug
upon arriving
in New Delhi
and stepping
into midnight,
the restorative
touch of Ganga,
and the piercing
eyes of the sadhu
and the yak herder
is to dive into delight.
She beckons me home
and I hear her call within.
It is time to rest once again
in the untamed grace of God,
in the wilds of the divine heart,
in the high magic of Bharat Mata.
This poem is part of a collection titled The Longing of God for God.
