The peaks of the Bhagirathi Massif rise above the source of Ganga at Gaumukh.
All the Way
After a supper at our favorite hotel
we strolled down to the secret ghat
and observed Ganga swirling past,
an unstoppable flow that carried
our every sorrow home to God.
That was the time I first desired
to plant kisses upon your hands,
your cheeks, and finally your lips.
But instead I commented that you
are treading an apex path, that you
are commissioned to trek all the way
to the highest peaks of enlightenment.
In you, I saw the certain spiritual victory,
and maybe I was also signaling, obliquely,
that you had already utterly conquered me.
Months passed. I tasted euphoria and pain.
I cried out to the gods of these mountains.
I contemplated the end of my asceticism.
I abandoned a simpler life of reverence
for a life dedicated to Source and you.
It took weeks to admit that I love you;
many more to reveal the infinite well
of Supreme Love spilling through me.
Ganga inhabits me, Jesus counsels me,
the love of Source outpours through me.
The good fortune of this lifetime is that we
are both incarnated here upon sacred Earth.
From this day on, I can only be completely open,
totally transparent, supremely honest with you.
We are pilgrims journeying to identical peaks,
to the same destination, and we are equals.
Know that I would be with you till the end:
the end of all lifetimes, the end of illusion.
In devotion, I am surrendered at your feet.
Together we shall arrive where God ordains.
As one, we must discover that we are the same.
I am with you all the way, and only, only all the way.
