Table of Contents for Root Meanings
General notes:
- Root Meanings is a work in progress that will continue to emerge and evolve. All entries are subject to evolution.
- The entries in Root Meanings have been sourced and refined until they calibrate all the way for truth. Older entries may need to be updated for this to be the case.
- The primary criterion for inclusion in Root Meanings is calibration for truth. These entries are not intended to be consistent with any pre-existing spiritual teachings or traditions. The entries in Root Meanings may differ from or go beyond widely accepted teachings. Moreover, some of what has been sourced may be novel.
- Many excellent and useful definitions are not yet included. If you would like to make a suggestion, you may do so here.
- If you find Root Meanings to be helpful, please considering sponsoring this work or making a donation. Your support helps to ensure that the definitions will continue to be refined and offered free of charge to the world.
- The intention is to distribute Root Meanings under a suitable Creative Commons license before the end of the decade. In the meantime, unless otherwise noted, all works in progress and the final work are copyright Jeff Vander Clute.

The Absolute
- THAT which is the unchanging foundation of all that appears.
- THAT which does not come and go.
- THAT which is always present, including in the forms that do come and go.
- The reality that is always present, which is present in all appearances and in the absence of appearances.
- The Absolute contains all that arises, and in the absence of arising the Absolute is equally present.
- The Absolute contains what is called the relative.
- The Absolute has no qualities, though it contains all qualities.
- The Absolute is neither mutable nor immutable.
- There is total dynamism in the Absolute. Thus we do not say that it is immutable.
- There is total stillness in the Absolute. Thus we do not say that it is mutable.
- The Absolute is beyond traditional distinctions between relative and absolute.
- “The Absolute” is another name for THE SUPREME.
Sayings:
- “The Absolute contains the relative and the relative contains the Absolute.”
- “The relative and the Absolute are one since God is and nothing else is.”
